I need to begin establishing some retirement income so I have thinking of investing in the stock market. I need a crash course in understanding how to use stock investment research and how to trust free stock market quotes.

Previously, I had turned to my employer for my investments, but now I am self-employed and completely lost when it comes to stock investment research. I have been visiting MorningStar.com for some guidance, but have not learned enough to invest my money yet. I want to my stock investment research to find an investment that is long term and slow growing. Is IBM still a good choice? How about Boeing or General Electric? Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should go with a company like Charles Schwab or should I try it alone and avoid the fees. I see all these "clicks" to sites that offer stock advice, but who can I trust and what unbiased tools are available?

I a good means of performing my stock investment research and I was hoping for some friendly advice from some that are in the know.
